American Veterans of Arkansas

In the beginning of 2019 I was commissioned by the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, a Department of Arkansas Heritage museum in Little Rock, Arkansas, to create a body of work on African American veterans in the state. The commission lasted a year, in which I made over 40 photographs, of various ranks and individuals that served in various branches in the military.

The series comprises mostly tintypes, but also silver gelatin coated "dry" glass plates, also a process employed in the late 19th century. The photo processes used were meant to reflect the past with the present in my effort to understand and reveal the systemic realities of American history.
